This topic is of particular importance to me personally as an artist directly affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine. Direct communication with artists whose historical and emotional experiences are close to my own will allow me to face the challenge of creating an authentic choreographic language that reflects both personal and collective memory.
During the residency, I will work in the studio in parallel – creating the first movement sketches and structures for a future solo performance – and conduct research on the local dance scene from 1991 to 2010. Using archival sources, interviews with choreographers, dancers and cultural managers, as well as focused studio practice, I will seek to create a solid foundation for work that connects personal history with broader artistic responses to conflict.
